Chaos Quotes – Day 3 – Quinn and Marcus

For Day 3 of sharing some of my favorite moments and quotes, I opted for the scene between Marcus and Quinn in the morgue. One of the reasons I love this interchange is because we get a glimpse as the sparks between the two characters. Not only that, there’s also an innocence to the excitement of standing next to someone who short-circuits your brain. And, as a guy, I know first-hand the feeling of trying to impress that person, but sounding like a dork instead.

Simeon placed his hands on either side of Banks’s head, murmured softly, and leaned forward. He held that position for a moment before moving his hands slowly down the neck and over the chest.

“Nothing. Only silence.”

He checked the corpse once again, murmuring more as he moved farther down the body. He paused at the toes, then worked his way back to the head.

“There is little that I can…” He drifted off, cocking his head to one side.

“What?”

“I may have found something, but it’s faint. Almost like an echo.”

“Echo, echo, echo,” I repeated softly. Simeon ignored me, but Quinn snickered.

“You’re weird,” she said.

“I was going for charming.”

“Perhaps.” A mischievous grin spread over her lips.

Please, stop flirting,” Simeon begged. “It’s distracting.”

We quieted, trading smirks as if we’d been caught passing notes in class.

Chaos Quotes: Day 2 – The Bees

Today is the second day of sharing with you all some of my favorite quotes/moments from Undead Chaos. For today, I chose the scene where Marcus, a hobbyist beekeeper, checks on his hives. As a “keeper” myself, I’ve always wished I could communicate with my own bees.

CM’s Favorite Chaos Quotes: Day 2 – The Bees

On my way back to the Honey House, one of the girls landed on my veil with a soft thud.

“Food?” she whispered, her body wiggling with excitement.

Occasionally I provided the hives a sugar-syrup to help supplement the nectar flow, especially during a dry season. I hadn’t thought to make any that morning.

“Sorry. Maybe next time.”

“Next, Keeper,” she repeated. Her wiggle was less enthusiastic and changed directions. The bees didn’t have a sense of time like people did, but she understood that I’d bring them something on my next visit. She performed the “waggle dance” over and over, practicing it so that when she returned to her hive, she could communicate the information to her sisters. After two more renditions, she headed back toward the apiary. I smiled, watching as she arced toward the hives and disappeared into the buzzing mass of her sisters.
